When patients first meet Dr. Keat Ooi, they are often surprised at how approachable he is.
“People have this idea of what kind of person a surgeon is, but once they get to know me, they understand that I’m just a regular guy,” Dr. Ooi said. “I have a lot of expertise and use a lot of great technology, but I also have a lot of compassion for my patients.”
Dr. Ooi is an Australian-trained orthopaedic spine surgeon. He also has a special interest in hip replacement surgery. He believes in providing the highest quality of multidisciplinary care for his patients, recognising that patients want to have control over their treatment journey based on their own individual needs.
“I want to know who my patients are, not just what is wrong with their spine,” he said. “I want to help my patients get back to living and help them walk toward that.”
Dr. Ooi received his medical degree from the University of Melbourne in 2005. He furthered his orthopaedic surgical training at the Australian Orthopaedic Association (AOA) Victoria and Tasmania and was awarded his fellowship in 2017 by the Royal Australian College of Surgeons. His keen interest in treating spine conditions culminated in his completion of the AOA Clinical and Research Fellowship in Spinal Surgery at Austin Health and Combined Orthopaedic and Neurosurgical Spinal Fellowship at Macquarie University Hospital, New South Wales.
He is appointed as a consultant orthopaedic and spine surgeon at Austin Health, as well as his own private practice.
